Delegation of Outstanding Macao Higher Education Students
to the European Union and UNESCO

1. Objectives: To broaden the horizon of Macao higher education students; to deepen their understanding of the relations between Macao, the European Union, the EU organization, and the UNESCO, as well as the European culture, education and economy; and to promote the exchange and cooperation between Macao and the EU, as well as the UNESCO.
2. Target participants: Holders of valid Macao SAR Resident Identity Card, who attend bachelor programs in the academic year 2018/2019, in the higher education institutions in or outside Macao (except for students who are attending the first year, or the last year of their bachelor programs lasting 4 years or longer)
Note: Participants are required to be enrolled in a higher education course during the periods of registration and the activities.
3. Duration of Visit: From June 22 to 30, 2019
4. Countries: France and Belgium
5. Number of Participants: 20
6. Period of Registration: From now to March 20, 2019
7. Registration: Method 1: Registration can be made at this webpage with the following documents:
  1. Photocopy of the valid Macao SAR Resident Identity Card (front and back);
  2. Photocopy of the valid student card (front and back);
  3. Photocopies of transcripts for the academic year 2018/2019 and the previous academic years (names, majors, disciplines, and scores must be shown on the transcript);
  4. A proposal of no less than 400 words stating your expectation towards the program, including a one-day itinerary in Brussels or Paris aimed at expanding your horizon and deepening your understanding of all aspects of the EU, the UNESCO and Europe;
    (Students who apply for both programs of "Delegation of Outstanding Macao Higher Education Students to the European Union and UNESCO" and "Study Tour to Cambridge" will only need to submit one proposal.)
  5. The Letter of recommendation (if any).
    (The size of each uploaded document must be less than or equal to 1,024 Kbytes.)

Method 2:You may obtain or download the application form from the Centre for Higher Education Students (location map) or the reception of DSES (location map), fill out the personal information and submit the form, together with the required documents, to any of the above-mentioned locations.
8. Selection:
  1. Curriculum vitae assessment (those with excellent comprehensive performance will be invited to interviews)
  2. Interview (mainly conducted in English)
9. Interview Dates: From April 11 to 17, 2019
10. Results
Announcement:
On or before April 30, 2019 on the activity webpage
(The admitted students will be informed via e-mail.)
11. Submittal date for supplementary documents: The admitted students must submit the following information to Centre for Higher Education Students (note 1) or by mail on or before May 7, 2019:
  1. Photocopy of the personal information page of the student's passport with a minimum of six months' validity from the date of departure;
  2. Declaration (click here to download).
Note: The above documents may be submitted via a designated person with a certificate of entrustment signed by the admitted student.

Briefing on the European Union & UNESCO

Duration

About 2.5 hours

Objectives

To enhance students’ knowledge of the EU and UNESCO, in order to facilitate their understanding of the operation and policy-making, its economy and culture during the visit of the EU organizations and UNESCO.

Contents

Introduction to European culture and history, Theory of European Integration, EU-Asia relations, Lisbon Strategy and sustainable development, etc.


Preparatory Meeting
The students will be divided into different groups (including itinerary planning group, itinerary coordination group, editorial group, etc.) Students have to collect, plan and implement the arrangements for the whole activity. The groups have to arrange their own meetings and report the progress of the work to DSES regularly.

The Second Phase (from June 22 to 30)
Visit to France and Belgium

Arrive in Paris, France. Visit local facilities

Visit local facilities, then head to Brussels in the afternoon

Visit the EU organizations in the morning. Visit the Parliament, Office to the European Union and workshop on International Protocol & Business Etiquette in the afternoon.

Visit local facilities for the youth during the day, and fly back to Hong Kong from Belgium in the afternoon

Return to Macao from Hong Kong


The Third Phase
    Submit the final production and attend closing meeting on August 8.
13. Activity fee:

The Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region shall be responsible for the following costs:

  • A round-trip airline ticket, valid for three months; participants can request to change a later return date to Macao on their own and have to bear the costs that may be derived;
  • A round-trip ferry ticket between Macao and the Hong Kong International Airport, according to the flight schedules. The time of the ferry tickets cannot be changed once it is confirmed. Students who want to change the set time of the ticket will be responsible for the charges caused;
  • The activity fees;
  • Travel insurance for the period of the activity. Students who will extend their stay should buy travel insurance for the respective period of extension at their own cost. At the same time, it is also the responsibility of the students themselves to ensure their personal safety and meet their obligations in any accidents and incidents during the time of their extension. Students may arrange extra insurance on their own if necessary.
14. Obligations:
  1. Students are required to attend and complete all the meetings and arrangements listed in above “Arrangements” while those who fail to fulfill the above-mentioned requirements will be disqualified or not receive the certificate.
  2. Those who cannot attend the closing meeting should inform DSES by e-mail in advance. DSES reserves the right to issue the certificate, depending on the reason of absence.
  3. Participants are required to submit their final productions (in any format) on or before 8 August.
  4. After the visit, participants are required to submit a report of experiences with no less than 1,000 words to the Bureau within ten working days (by July 12) after the visit.
